Awing Bible Literacy Initiative: The Word in the Mother Tongue
Through KiDS, the ministry intends to respond to a pressing need: access to God’s Word in the local Awing language
One example of contextual mission is KiDS ongoing work in Awing village. Through KiDS, the ministry intends to respond to a pressing need: access to God's Word in the local Awing language.
While the Cameroon Association for Bible Translation and Literacy (CABTAL) completed a translation of the New Testament into the Awing tongue, many villagers remain unable to afford or read these Scriptures. Recognizing this, KiDS launched an initiative to make these Bibles more accessible and readable. Rooted in Revelation 1:3— “Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy…”— this effort underscores the connection between access to Scripture and the release of divine blessings. The strategy involves both subsidizing Bible costs and establishing Bible Reading Clubs (BRCs) that teach local people how to read the Scriptures in their mother tongue.
This incarnational move to bridge linguistic and economic gaps is not just about evangelism; it is about empowerment, restoration of identity, and spiritual awakening. By bringing the Gospel to people in the language of their heart, KiDS embodies the Pentecostal vision of Acts 2, where every person heard the message “in their own language.”
Strategic Components of the Awing Literacy Mission
The Awing initiative further illustrates five strategic elements of mission:
- Accessibility: KiDS is lobbying for a reduction in Bible prices to make God's Word financially accessible to all, starting with personal family funding as seed investment and eventually mobilizing local partners.
- Literacy: Through the Bible Reading Clubs, the ministry will train individuals to read Scripture in Awing, enhancing comprehension and enabling personal spiritual growth.
- Partnership: CABTAL, local churches, and potential Awing elites will be invited into Kingdom Partnerships to sustain and expand the effort.
- Communication: KiDS is producing brochures, banners, and ministry reports to raise awareness and document the impact of the literacy movement.
- Kingdom Agreement: Future collaborations are envisioned under a Kingdom Partnership Agreement (KPA), fostering accountability and shared vision.
Together, these elements affirm that mission is not just about preaching but about systemic transformation, literacy, and dignity rooted in the Gospel.
